Several countries have experienced tremendous growth in the development of the built environment in the past several decades. With this rapid growth and change of cities and landscapes, countries must address how to preserve their cultural identity, heritage and resources and define the role each plays in the formation and continuity of a cultural and national identity. Vernacular architecture is an architectural style developed based on local needs, the availability of building materials and which reflects local traditions. In this context, the conservation of heritage in the region is not a new pursuit.
